Nature and Bird Walk in New York City (Central Park)

Saturday, November 3

Guided Bird Walk in Central Park
9am - 12 noon

Meeting Place:

Central Park
Conservatory Garden, 104th Street and Fifth Avenue
main entrance (in front of the great iron gate)
New York, NY

Itinerary:

We will take a moment to check out the Garden, then choose our path into the Park based on what birds we find along the way. We will pass by the Loch, visit the Ravine and look into the meadow on the east hillside from the Ravine. We will pace ourselves according to what we find. If we have the time, we will venture into the western sections of the park, look around the Blockhouse, look around the Pond and the hill just north of it and maybe even venture as far as the northern end of the Reservoir.
If you are new to birding, you will be given a few pointers about using binoculars and doing birding.

Tour Guide:

Randolph Schutz has been birding since the 1980's. Trained as a pediatritian, he quickly moved into psychiatry, then psychotherapy, and currently works as a coach. He writes poety, speaks French, paints watercolors, is fascinated by the workings of the human mind, entranced by everything living and loves birds, though when there's an interesting plant around he'll head for that, too. He has birded extensively around the metropolitan area, birds Central Park regularly and frequently, and has led both formal and informal birding groups for years. He birds in all seasons and most weathers, and while he loves unusual birds he's been known to be hypnotized by titmice and sparrows.
