has anyone seen one?

ok so i was walking behind this cow pasture down a road to my bfs house and there were these 2 huge birds they were about 100 feet away and when i stopped to look at them they notied and took flight but before that i notied that one was on the ground the other was at the top at the fence pole they were almost as big as the pole the poles hold up wires and are about 4 ft tall they hada huge wingspan too they were really dark colored i have neevr seen a bird that big cept turkeys but turkeys are smaller those birds were definetly not turkeys i live in central newyork this was out in the country but ive never seen those birds agen they seemed like predatory birds of some sort had a heavier hawk like build not tall and skinny herons these birds have had me wondering for a while but google images just dont help anyone know what i was looking at? and what was looking at me O.0

That would be my guess as well. Easiest way to tell is if you can get a look at the head. Their head and neck have no feathers.

If you were anywhere near water, they may have been Osprey as well.
