The Regent Bowerbirds are truly spectacular and come down to the verandah at the restaurant.

If you want further North, I recommend the Red Mill Guest House in Daintree. We stayed there a few years ago and it’s a lovely little spot. Beautiful garden full of birds and close to the start point for cruises up the Daintree. I recommend the one we went on with Chris Dahlberg.

We also stayed at Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodge which has self catering accommodation and lovely gardens. We saw all sorts of birds here, from feeding catbirds on the balcony to rifle birds in the trees. Just lovely. Not expensive.

Another place in FNQ is Kingfisher Park. We didn’t stay there but it came highly recommended

The birdwatching on the Cairns foreshore was good too, mudflats, waders etc.

We enjoy bird watching although we’re not fanatics about it, but far north queensland was by far the best area we’ve ever been to for spectacular birds. It’s also compact and easy to drive around in. There are lots of interesting sights to see, lovely rainforest, waterfalls, it’s beautiful. I’m sure you’ll love it.
