Atlanta Zoo
My son and I went to the Atlanta Zoo today while my husband was in meetings (It's been a great week- The World of Coke on Monday, the Georgia Aquarium [the world's largest] on Tuesday and the zoo today.) I am not too keen on zoos but this one is centered around conservation and preservation, especially of endangered species or species that are in danger of becoming endangered!
Anyway, thought you all would enjoy some of the gorgeous birds we encountered on our walk. The first two (Southern ground hornbills) were hysterical to watch and reminded me of rambunctious dogs. They waddled up to us as soon as we approached their habitat. They sniffed around the fence as if to say, "hello" and then waddled back from whence they came. ![]() ![]() ![]() A vulturine guinea fowl, I believe ![]() A blue-bellied roller ![]() ![]() A Kori Bustard ![]() A speckled pigeon ![]() A pair of sun conures ![]() A gorgeous owl ![]() A kookaburra ![]() Chilean flamingos Hope you all enjoy! |

Great pics! As for the suns... no, I'd go as far to say that the conure on the right is plucking... or rather overpreening? the other conure... So the sun on the left probably isn't plucking but it's hard to say, cause maybe he is.... poor suns, they must be bored!

Thank you, Jessica313 and Monica! I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. The featherless conure did pull at my heartstrings as did all the other birds. I just wanted to cuddle them and give them scritches.
It's amazing; not only have I come to adore our cockatiels but I apparently have a thing for other birds as well. Before adopting Percy and Roosevelt, I would've walked quickly past the birds, maybe glancing here or there, but now I spend a lot more time in front of their habitats, studying their behaviors and enjoying their avian antics. |
