What is this bird doing?

I am so interested keeping my eye on this Finch or Sparrow who is in my backyard for 3 days now always within an area never moving from a 1 foot radius. I got out and do my gardening and I can come as close as 1 foot and it really won't become afraid of me, it'll just sit there and watch me. It'll walk around a little, stretch it wings out, but from the minute I wake up, he/she is there untill I check when I go to bed, it is sleeping there. It leaves it's droppings all on one rock, ALOT of droppings that were never there before. I haven't spotted a nest. I'm really interested to find out why it just stays there and doesn't seem to be afraid of me. Any ideas? Thanks.

Please forgive me, I am not really good at identifying birds but after a close friend of mine came over she told me she was positive that it is not a finch or sparrow but a Mourning Dove.

Do you have a feeder around? Doves will stay near any spot with a meal. We have 2 doves that stay in our yard all day just for the food.

Could be a pet of someones. that is lost. can you try to get even closer and pick up? if you can that answers your question. its a pet. If not, and it still doesn't move off, but just flaps and flutters away from you. its hurt.

can you feed it? is it eating well? its a sitting duck if its not leaving. I have morning doves all over the place. They are very skittish and fly away at the first sign of me coming. And they are quite larger than a finch or sparrow.

I put out water for him/her. I am unsure if it eats, I don't know what to give it, but I can come very close and it'll just look at me but I put gloves on and came back out and was going to try and pick him up but he waved its wing..and ran off into the bushes and made a little squeak. I do not have feeder..I am considering it now, and have been looking around for one, just need to know what kind of seeds to put in it. I heard its call this morning, almost sounds like an owl. But last night we had terrible storms and I went out to check and didn't see him/her, figured he was hiding in the bushes since it is sitting out there again.

Yes at first I mistaken it for a finch and sparrow, don't ask me how, lol. But I noticed as I looked at pictures it is definitly a mourning dove. He is actually a very pretty little thing and I wish I could figure out whats going w/ him.

YEp hurt... or sick... they do NOT stick around for humans. They flutter away at the first sign of my chickens. they are beautiful and dainty looking.

any black oil sunflower seeds? ever get that seed mixture from kaytee? any of that stuff on the bottom of the bag, will do the trick. or if you have a minute to run to the store to get some cockatiel feed (size of seeds they use)... BOSS is what all wild birds love around here.

If its hurt, do not touch your other birds till you wash thoroughly poor guy.... how do his eyes and nares look? any oddities on his feet? did only one wing flap? not the other?

Rehabbing any wildlife is a hard thing. if you can catch it and take it to a wildlife center in your area there is a better chance he might survive. the closest one to me is a 40 mile drive. its a pain in the butt, but well worth it when you call the next day and they tell you the (insert animal here) survived and is recovering... :) makes my day....

Good news, he had come back and I called a local rehabber a few miles away. They came out and rescued him, said he was definitly hurt because he wasn't flying away from them and he actually stayed to let them pick him up. I've been in contact and it seems that his left eye was injured, but he is doing well.eating, drinking. i may go visit tomorrow.
