Wild Turkeys

We woke this morning, and, upon looking out the kitchen windows, discovered four wild turkeys in our backyard! What magnificence! Please excuse the blurred quality of the photos as I took them through the glass doors. Even opening the blinds spooked the birds and they slowly tiptoed off into the woods beyond. Hope you enjoy.

We drove past a flock going down to my mom's at Lake Anna, Va. I said to the boys this is a gift, don't ever forget it!

I lived in Staatsburg for two years while I was at the CIA, the Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful places I've been. I loved all the good food that was available, artisan breads and cheeses, heirloom and organic produce and of course the wineries! Also the many cool little villiages with hippy coffee cafes and funky antique stores. I miss all that but honestly NOT the winters, LOL!

Tournant~ Wow! You know, we're right down the road from the CIA! You are right; it is beautiful here and there is a wealth of things to do, places to go and foods to eat (although this past winter- our first- was a bit rough and the locals say it was mild!)

You are right- the turkeys appearing right there were a true gift! Thanks for looking at the pics!

Best,
Laura

You are welcome Laura!

It's nice to share with other people who "see" things in a similar way!

I'm fairly new here and bringing this up. Just had to share my turkey pictures. Around here I never saw a turkey in the wild till about 4 years ago. Now they are everywhere. We get them in our back yard quite often now. Spring, summer, fall or winter doesn't matter.

I just love seeing the gobblers in full strut, they are magnificent. If all could see them like this they wouldn't think that turkey are so "ugly".

Now hope I do this right.

Oh my gawd! I don't remember seeing wild turkeys when I lived in New York! (Well, maybe the wild turkey in a bottle......) That's fabulous. I certainly don't see them in my backyard in Colorado. Right now the only thing in my backyard is a lot of snow, two juncos and a couple of squirrels. Even the predatory cat that usually stalks my backyard is gone (probably the latest victim of the coyotes).

We get stupid scrub turkeys here in australia. They look no where near as nice as yours. Ours are black with a red/pink skin neck. They also dig up the yard grr..they used to chase our ducks.
