Canadian Goose died in my backyard

I have a lake lot on a 300+ acre lake. Geese frequently travel thru my backyard on there way to wherever or just hang out. This a.m. as I was feeding and watering my fids Paulie and Paco who usually ride on my shoulder during the a.m. feeding started screaming as they looked out the kitchen window. I looked to see what had them upset and a flock of 10 or so geese were in my backyard. I noticed one of the geesse flopping around franticly. I put my fids up and went out to see what was wrong with the goose. By the time I got there he was dead! My guess is a water moccasin bit him. There is a thick cluster of water lillies on the bank and water line. I've seen snakes go in and out of before. Does this sound possible? It's the only thing I can think of unless the goose croaked from a heart attack.

I don't believe west nile is prevalent in canada geese but it mightn't be a bad idea to call them anyway. Mind you, probably isn't pleasant having a dead goose around while you wait for them.....

Not a nice way to start the day for sure...

It could have been WNV, but the bird would have been dealing with the loss of movement control for some time before it died. The death so close to the erratic/convulsive state makes me thing it would be another cause.
I wonder if it could have been something it swallowed.

Without a necropsy, we will likely never know.
