Cool Grey Crowned Crane spotted in Central Florida

Hello, I Joined this forum in hopes of learning a bit about the Grey Crowned Crane, which I've discovered, is endemic to central and south Africa. My son and I spotted this big, bold, beautiful bird while riding around a golf course by my home in Central Florida. I'm concerned for this bird. I'm open to suggestions about contacting an appropriate protector.

I'm not from the area, the only thing I could suggest is contacting local animal foundations or zoos, they may be able to give you the appropriate information of who to contact. Good luck!

I can't tell for sure but that might be a grey band on the one leg. I'm thinking the bird escaped from captivity somewhere.

It probably did escape from the zoo or a rescue of some sort.

P.S. I live in central FL, what golf course did you see him at, and where is it?

A flock of these escaped the Miami Parrot Jungle about 15 yrs ago when hurricane Andrew hit. I wouldn't be surprised if they made their way upstate. We had a flock of escapee b/g (and 1 gw) macaws in the palms by my house from the same catastrophe.
