I'm so glad they hatched!!

Ok, first a little background...We've lived in our house for three years now and we always have a ton of birds around. We have a flock of finches that seem to live in some big bushes by our mailbox and we have various other birds that make nests all around our house, they seem to find the best little crevices to make a nest. Well this year when my Granny and I went out to decorate my front door for Spring (I always have a seasonal wreath, and we decorate a large grape vine swag around my door for the seasons/holidays), I found this in my Mardi Gras wreath on my door:

So of course I had to leave it up there. We took the Mardi Gras mask down that was in the middle, stuck a few random daisies in it, hung a Happy Easter sign in the middle from the wreath hook and left the wreath alone. I have a gorgeous, bright Spring wreath covered in gerbera daisies, daffodils, and irises, but I figured I could put that out when they hatched or whenever...no big deal as the baby birds were more important

I've been watching them from afar and when I'm sitting in my living room, I can see the parents sitting in the nest through the glass on my door. We've been really careful with the front door, only going out of it to check the mail once a day. I didn't want to shake anything up because I didn't know how long they had been there before we found them. Well guess what I woke up to today:

I'm so excited that we didn't shake them up too much!! (well, at least that one ) My husband saw a parent feeding the baby through the glass this morning, so I had to get my camera. I watched until she flew away and I ran all the way around the house to take a picture. I didn't get as close as the picture looks, we just used some major zoom Both parents chirpped and stood gaurd in my Crepe Myrtle about 10 feet away.

We've had baby birds every year before, but they're usually in the cornices above my windows or at the top of my columns. This is the first year that we've had a nest in plain sight! I now have a big sign taped to the inside of my front door threatening the lives of anyone who opens it We will not be disturbing the new family (except to take the occasional picture, of course). I just hope the others hatch as well. I can't wait!!!

I'm going to try to take pictures every morning. Other than that, I'm trying so hard to leave them alone. It's soooo difficult Everytime someone goes in the foyer, you can see the parents fly away, so I can't even walk freely in my own home! They're taking over (and I love it!)

Just a thought, could you put a blanket over the door so they can't see the activity in the house?

How Exciting!!!

Do you know what kind of birds they are?
I had house finches raise a family on my porch one year and I loved watching and listening to them being fed :)

There were no new babies this morning, but this one nearly doubled in size overnight! He was squirming around and everything today. I'll post pictures in the morning...hopefully we'll have another baby soon!

We don't normally go in the foyer much. My rabbit is in there right now (she got evicted from the bird room a while back after the 6th or 7th bird ) I put my little warning sign up over where the nest is and the glass is frosted, so I really don't think it's bothering them much anymore.

Barb, we hear the baby birds so often that most of my birds have picked up the baby chirp. They do a great mimic of the birds outside, especially when the windows are open, like it's a competition or something, crazy birds I do have a book that I've been meaning to open to see what type of birds they are. I'll try to get to that tomorrow.

Well we still only have one baby bird...don't think the other three are fertile But the one baby is huge! Takes up the whole nest. I haven't taken pictures in a few days since I've been trying to leave them alone. He's full of fuzzy little feathers. It's too cute. I'll get my husand to go out tomorrow and take a picture. I'm too short to take the picture!
