The hummingbirds finally found my feeder!

I put up a hummingbird feeder a while ago and the birds were not finding it. (Not the hummingbirds anyway). I think I was not putting enough sugar in the mix or something so I emptied it and tried again and they finally showed up. I got a pretty good picture.

We just started seeing some ruby-throats at our honey suckle; they're pretty late this year, actually. I stuck a feeder out... no luck yet.

Soon, hopefully.

Aren't they fun? ^^

That is great! I love hummingbirds but never had any luck attracting them.

We had to quit putting our hummingbird feeder out since it was attracting yellow jackets. They seem to really love making nests on our patio. I miss the hummingbirds a lot. Occasionally we'll see one from time to time.

Hmm. Have you tried feeders that have bee guards?

Something like this:

That might help keep them off... although it wouldn't stop from attracting them, though.

we had a hummingbird feeder up for like 2 years, we got maybe one or two birds there (that we saw) the whole time we had it up :( We tried many different mixes/brands of food, none seemed to work. They are adorable little creatures, though :)

Really all you need is a brightly colored feeder. With mixes it's best (and healthiest) to do it yourself (1 part sugar to four parts water). Sometimes it's just a matter of keeping it out each season and more birds will come (especially during early spring and late summer during migration).

Sorry. I worked at a Wild Bird store since I was 16 so all this information is just... ingrained in me. x__x

hahaha it's cool! :) we did have a pretty bright feeder (regular red & yellow, and the mix was coloured red), can't really remember what the mix was made of, though

Like I said, we kept it out for 2 years (mostly during the summer) and no one hardly came :( It was getting a bit of a bother having to keep cleaning & refilling the feeder because with the heat here all the water kept evaporating off... I dunno why they never came, maybe someone else just had a better feeder ;)

thanks for the info, though! I'm saving it up in my brain for the future ;)
