Question wild Quakers?

I had a quick question:

There is a (rather large!) flock of green parrots that nest atop the tornado warning tower near the fire station in town, and occasionally I'll see a smaller flock of them flying around the vet clinic where I work (but I hear them before I see them!)

I thought I remembered someone telling me once that they were once pet Quakers that had been released a long time ago and had since started a huge flock.

I've heard that there are such flocks in other states as well. I was wondering if they really were Quakers, or if they were some other kind of parrots.

Thanks!

They really are Quakers. Where are you. In Fl there are Nanadays as well. But Quakers survive in Chicago and even Maine. They are the only stick - nest building parrots and are hated by the electric companies and phone companies for the HUGE condos they build for the colonies they live in and breed in the wild all over. They are in fact outlawed to own in many states now because of this.

I live in Texas, haha! I've heard of the ones in Florida, but not in other places. As far as I know, the flock in our town is the only one around, but I could be wrong.

The Firemen at the station where the birds build their nests are actually quite fond of them :) They say it can get quite loud, but it's still a beautiful sight.
It's fun playing in the park across the street because every once in a while you'll hear them coming and they'll swoop right over your head.

The sad thing is, though, many people have tried recapturing them, and since they have been in the wild again for a few generations, the adult birds don't take too kindly to it :(

They are in Washington State and have been treated very badly!!!!! Nest torn down with no place to go in the dead of winter, they could at least plan to destroy the nest at a better time. There was like 50 in the flock and by the time it was over a very few survived.

Oh man I'm so sorry :( I know I love having them here because they're such goofy birds... I would hate it if that happened.

They cannot relocate them. They breed like rabbits. They survive in all of our climates. They are an introduced species, a result of careless irresponsible pet owners releasing them into the wild. Where are they supposed to relocate them too? There natural habitat? Cant. Cites laws dont permit it. The ones you see in the wild are now generations of their own and are wild animals. Capturing them as pets doesnt work either and is just as cruel. They reek havoc on the power company (and us). So in some cases - like bugs- - they must have the numbers reduced....AND ITS OUR OWN FAULT!

We have some hear in RI as well. It is too bad that they are illegal to keep here as they are beautiful birds.
