My mom's new friend

This little one started following her around her garden early yesterday. We think he might have gotten blown into the yard Thursday when it stormed. We haven't seen any other blue jays around. He listen's for my mom's voice, then lands within a few feet of her. She thought he was scared because he opened his mouth when she reached toward him. He did the same thing for me but I realized it looked a lot like a baby begging so I hand fed him some corn. She puts food and water out for him during the day but takes it in at night so it doesn't encourage unwanted visitors. He's such a little cutie. He has tried to join a cardinal's nest but the cardinal chases him away.

aww thats adorable! I read an article once where a lady befriended all the wild birds around her house and they were all very tame and followed her around - it was amazing! I hope your moms new visitor sticks around!

I hope he sticks around too. We don't get many blue jays. I think even the wild birds know we're suckers. A canadian goose visited us once. We took her to a quarry down the road but she refused to leave us. She stayed for 3 weeks. We found a private pond with a male about the same age. It was over 30 minutes away but she convinced him to fly back to the quarry by my parents house. There have been canadian geese there year round ever since.
