Smile Rainbow Lorikeets

My mum woke me up at 7am to look at these.. LOL

They were on our outside table (in our backyard) eating bread with sugar on top. We get them ALL the time, they're such pretty birds.

And my favorite last..

hi

sorry if this sounds rude but you cant feed lorikeets sugar or honey. they are unable to use up all the energy that it gives them and they get muscle wastage which stops their ability to fly and eventually walk, they then become prey for cats or starve.
try replacing the bread and sugar with seed, it works a treat at my place

Umm, have you ever met a lorikeet? They bounce off the walls. And these are wild lorikeets, meaning they fly for miles each day, and will definitely use up any sugar given to them.

Besides that, they do not eat seeds, as they are fruit and nectar (which fructose, which is fruit SUGAR) eaters. So although they no not eat that much, the sugar is made into carbs and gives them energy.

You should look more in to lorikeets, they're fascinating birds.

Lovely pics! They all look so cheeky. I wonder why their eye-rings are so much darker than my lorikeet's?

Also the breast colour and the red 'pant' colour is much darker then the ones in Vic, which are more yellow.
Sorry NKONTB but you should absolutely never feed lorikeets seed, wild or otherwise, as it can destroy the papillae on the tongue and damage the inside of their beaks, which aren't designed to husk seed. The only natural seed that anyone has ever seen lorikeets eat (in Australia) is seeds from the casuarina species of trees, which they extract by maneuvering them out with their tongues. These seeds are tiny, about the size of a millet seed, and only seem to be consumed when nectar is scarce.
