Wild Mourning Dove Disease ID

Since this is a wild dove, I didn't really know where to post this question. The photo attached is of a wild Mourning Dove. I believe it had Trichomoniasis. But I am hoping someone on this message board has more knowledge than myself and could either confirm this or let me know what this bird has.

THANKS !

Oh wow how sad! Is it still alive? There is a birdwatching forum, maybe they can help you more. Do you think you could take it to a bird rescue place and see if they can help it? :(

ETA I see you posted it HAD the disease, so it's dead now?

It kinda looks like avian pox virus which is seen in doves a lot. Lesions are primarily on the feet, legs, and around the beak and eyes. They may look like crusts or clumps of dried mud and eventually progress to bloody wart like wounds. It is invariably fatal and contagious to even pet birds so disinfect if you have babies of your own.

It's deceased. I didn't find it... a farmer friend in Nebraska of mine found it... Not sure why he didn't use latex gloves while handling it...

Are there any other forums I could ask about it ? Do you know the urls ?

I don't know, if he has foul livestock, diseases could kill all of them. Before you spread the disease, I would put it in a ziplock baggie and then...

I suggest you take it to:

USGS National Wildlife Health Center Provides wildlife health and disease investigative, research and training support to federal, state, local and international conservation agencies.
Staff Index - Contact Us - Field Manual of Wildlife Diseases

Or better yet incinerate the poor thing.

I'm still sayin avian pox. Its pretty common esp in doves and pigeons. It is viral in nature. The lesions are identical to the ones on the bird you show. It is no harm to humans.
