Slayed Legs

On July 29th 2008 we discoverd that our 2 baby lovebirds had splayed legs. Avter searching the internet we came up with a solution that seems to be working. We took retangle cosmetic sponges and put 2 holes in in and put the babies legs through and pushed the sponges up as far as they could go. Then after a couple of days the feet began gripping and we took off the sponges and exercised the little legs and put new sponges on. To straighten our the feet we used pipe cleaners. News from the funny farm

This has been a bad week. We lost Pedro the male Fischer. They had just started nesting and have 2 eggs. He died in the nesting box. Lola has been deligently setting on the eggs. I have been giving her extra of her favorites to encourage her to eat. I am keeping a millet spray close to the entrance so she can eat without going to the dish if she wants. She comes aout at least 3 times to get food and water so that is good. I sure hope her babies hatch. The little Parrotlet...

New babies coming

On May 27th the parrolets began laying eggs. The first egg broke but she is sitting on3 eggs. She is being fierce about protecting the nest. She has made her nest in the front NE corner of the cage, choose that spot over a nesting box. The white faced cokatiel pair (Melbourn and Syney) are also nesting. We have not been able to get a count on the eggs. One or both of them are alsways on the nest and since this is their first time nesting since we got them I don't want to spook them. Mia and...

No baby Parrotlets

After 4 weeks, I took the eggs out of the cage. I have only had the pair for about 4 months and they insited on laying the egs on the floor of the cage. I had pellets in the bottom which they crunched up into small pieces. My Fischers. egss didn't hatch either. I had 4 pairs if birds all choosing to nest in the bottom left corner in the cage. 2 pair of lovebirds, 1 pair of parrotlets and a parakeet pair. All but the parakeets had the option of a nesting box. No one that I have talked to...
