A Victory for Bird Bread and Mash!

I've started making my own bird mash. Nohea loves it, on the condition that it be warmed up first. But he isn't the reason I'm so happy.
I've been trying to tempt Cloud, our feral cockatiel, with something, anything, other than seed for about six months now. No luck. He'd rather go without until he got seed.
I'd baked some bird bread, and dropped that in his bowl the night before. The next morning I noticed it had been eaten. And there was much rejoicing, which did nothing to endear me to Cloud, who believes every action I take is a prelude to eating him.
I pushed my luck and gave him some of Nohea's mash. Cloud tentatively pecked at it, and I swear you could see the revelation in his eyes. By the time he was done you couldn't see his beak for mash. He was covered in it, and I was doing the happy dance. . . .
. . . which, of course, Cloud took as a sign that I was about to eat him . . .

Haha my cockatiel has the same problem, we couldnt get him to eat anything other than millet and small portions of seed. (we still cant) but we keep trying to feed him veggies and fruits and nothing works......... we are sad (we dont want him to die...) but anyway everytime i go near him he runs away and says dont eat me... ( we taught him that, thought it would be funny...!)Posted 06-17-2008 at 06:21 PM by birdbrain432

Woo-Hoo! Congratulations on your victory!
What do you put in your mash? My cockatiel Jingles eats pretty well, but my recently acquired (ok, I may as well say it: feral) cockatiel Smokey Joe is extremely picky. He's finally learned to eat pellets from watching Jingles, but anything else he absolutely refuses to touch!
