Question Budgie Books

Hi. I'm getting a budgie in a few weeks! Just in case, I really want to buy more budgie books. If you have any parakeet recipie book, or Budgie Care book that you want to suggest please tell. My dad is going to the states to buy it there during his business trip in a few days.
Please post as soon as possible!

We've just picked up the books that are available in the pet stores...most of the Baron's books are decent...and there's also a Baron's book on bird nutrition that you might want to pick up...

Budgies are parrots...so in most instances, the information on behaviour and such written for larger parrots will also apply to the little ones...

Try and buy recently published books, I've noticed that there are still some older ones floating about (published in the 80's and reprinted) that have some outdated information in them...

I would get ANY books written by Mattie Sue Anthen. They have all very good information, will apply to any and all birds, and when you get another bird, you can use it as a reference. The ones I recommend most are the guide to a well behaved parrot and guide to companion parrot behavior.

Try to get a cage that is ATLEAST 2' square as budgies need room to fly about and play with toys. DO NOT get a mirror for your budgie... As far as books, there are many out there, though try to get some of the most recently published books, i.e. ones from 1990 to the present time... they usually tend to have the most updated information out there....

As far as books check out this link: http://www.amazon.com

When you go to that link, go up to the searchbar on the page, right of one that says Amazon.com, and type in these words:

Budgerigar

Budgies

Parakeet

Parrot Cookbook

If you type in those phrases you'll get quite a few returns of various books that you may be interested in getting...

I don't have any budgie specific books, as the only books that I would actually recommend do not pertain specifically to budgies, but to all parrots in general... these include:

The Healthy Bird Cookbook by Robin Deutsch
It's a great book that explains nutrition, foods to avoid, hints and tips, as well as over 150 recipes that both human and bird can enjoy together!

Birds Off The Perch by Larry Lachman, Diane Grindol, and Frank Kocher
This is a great overall general book to understanding birds, which includes therapy and training for both you and your bird. It teaches the person to respect the birds boundaries, and how to form a relationship with their bird through effective techniques.

Encyclopedia of Parakeets by Kurt Kolar and Karl Heinz Spitzer
This is a great book to learn about the overall general of birds from parrotlets to budgies and cockatiels, up to the patagonian conure. It's more for species info such as their characteristics, habitats, keeping etc. It does however go into some large detail of large parakeets, keeping, feeding, diseases, and breeding, so is actually a wonderful book all around.

I do have of course other books, many of which are species related (such as books pertaining to budgies, or cockatiels, or conures) however on general, I don't recommend these as some of the information inside these books tend to be outdated or there is no significant amount of information (at least to me) that could be found easily elsewhere without having to pay the money... It's just that some of these specific species type books usually don't go into as great of detail as they could in regards to caring, feeding, or other necessary things for the birds described in these books.
