It would help if you could provide photos of your own birds as this would make things easier. If you can't provide photos then you need to specify exactly what photos you are talking about and what they look like compared to your birds.

I have a lutino keet, and when I bought him the breeder told me that he looked like a boy, but that if more white came into his cere he was most likely a girl because they have white in their ceres.

Indeed that sounds right! One thing that confuses many people is the fact that most females also attain a blue cere.

Ok I have a question here: Franklin had a purple cere when we brought him home and now it seems to be a whitish color. Here are some pics so you can see what I mean:

This is when he first jopined the family.

Here's one from about a week ago.

Finally here is one from yesterday.

So what do you think male or female?

Judging by his lines, I'd assume probably a male, since he's probably 4-6 months old at least... One thought is maybe Franklin is a 'late bloomer' and that he is actually a she... but judging by possible age I want to say male.

If in doubt you can compare his behavoir to your confirmed males and females, and see if he acts more or less like one of the others (take into account, his antics, noise level, etc)

Wow this is a really helpful post. When I brought my previous budgies a long time ago, I knew something that beaks were related to sexing the budgies. Thanks for the post!

Technically speaking its not possible to spay/neuter birds. They can fix females but I guess not males??? It's just too much of a difficult procedure especially with how fragile birds can be.

Okay I need help. I am new to this board and I have one budgie and two canaries. I had 2 budgies but one of them died sadly. i am trying to find a home for the budgie i have. it is all yellow with a tiny bit of white and is a dark-eyed clear. I am pretty sure it is a male, because it's cere is starting to turn purple, and in the dark-eyed clear color mutation the males cere is purple. this budgie also acts like a male. sings quite a bit, has never bitten me, and is active. it is 2 months old. but the person that is interested in my budgie insists that it is a female, and has only seen pictures. and in the pictures it is really hard to tell the true color of this budgies cere, which is why i feel it is pointless to post pics. i just need some oppinions, because this person is looking for a female budgie, not a male. i will try to post pics of the budgies cere once i have batteries, my last set died.
