All tips welcome/training new 'keet

Hi. Im not an inexperienced owner, I,ve owned parakeets for most of my life, usually kept singlely, some tame, some not tame. My very first when I was about 12 yrs. old, was very tame and knew some tricks and could talk. He lived to the ripe old age of 13!! It took me a few years to get over him and purchase another bird. As an adult I dont have alot of spare time for training but still want to have a tame bird that I can interact with outside of the cage daily. I have a new young male bird I purchased this weekend and he seems to be adjusting very well. He seems curious about me and not very scared and I have just started offering millet spray from my hand (with no luck yet) I have read about a few ways of training...one that described holding and petting the bird almost constantly even if he fights it until he pretty much just gives up and accepts it! That seems cruel to me. I would like to hear how some of you have won your bird over and tamed them. Also..my new 'keet is green. Some suggestions on names would be helpful too. Im wanting to name him after something green...maybe 'Pickle'? lol  Thanks to anyone who responds.

Kiwi, maybe? :D
I think you are refering to the intensive love method. I don't know enough about it to explain, though. If you use the search function at the top right you should be able to find out about it.
Don't give up trying to interact. My parrotlet was hand-shy for a week or so. I just kept trying and at one point kind of forced her to step up. She is the sweetest bird in the world now. They just have to learn to trust that you're safe.

I have always just let them out in a quiet safe room and put him on your finger(the food thing never worked for me either, how can you expect a bird to eat from your hand if he dosen't trust you) if he flies away go pick him up and put him back on your finger, it may be annoying but just keep doing it for about an hour or half an hour a day. also before I let them out I talk to them for a few days at first with my hand out side of the cage then I put my hand in the cage then I get closer and closer until they let you touch them then work on getting them on your finger, I suggest you do this before you let them out. It really works, the whole time talk softly to them, I personally also clip their wings for during training so they can't get too far, I let their wings grow back out after they have been tamed. hope this helps. :D

Sounds good...I have been getting him familiar with my hand already by putting it in the cage for a while every day and he doesnt seem to mind. Im going to attempt to take him out of the cage this weekend, and I,ll do just what you suggested. Thanks! :)

P.S. still no name for him, I,ll have one by the weekend though.
