Need to find out the Gender of my Budgie Parakeet

:?: I just recently was given a Budgie Parakeet dues to health issues of a nephew. My Neice doesn't know if it's a male of female, does anyone know or have info. on how I can find out. It is a beatiful and I would like to get this one a mate. It has a tourqoiuse breast /w grey and white wings.
Thanks if anyone can help.

*Usually* if the cere (area just above the beak where the nose holes are) is lighter- beige or tan-ish - it's a female. If it's a darker shade like a Blue-ish, or purple-ish color, it's a male.

Hopefully if I have that wrong, someone will correct me....??

Welcome karaoke girl,

I agree with Savvy.

Btw, there were some great quality type pictures on here in the last day or two detailing the differences etc.......Ya may want to skim through the posts of the last two days or maybe the person who posted them will jump in and direct you or maybe someone else knows.

you may be wondering what sex Is my bird well here Is how you can go about finding out

look at the cree of your bird ( this is the fleshy part around your birds beak where the holes of the nose are )

for the normal colors of parakeets like the greens & the blues the cree will be brown or tan for a girl & blue for a boy

for pied's & albinos birds the cree will be blue & white for a girl & a light purpleish for a boy

normal colored green female

a normal colored blue male parakeet

a pied male parakeet

a pied female parakeet

see how this birds cree Is white & blue this means that It Is a girl as well tho she doe not look pied ( meaning 2 differn't colors )she must have a pied gene.

an alibno male keet with red eye the bird on the right

you are looking at the bird on the right tho both of these birds are male

a female alibon parakeet notice the tanish colored cree

Sorry Kathy that I momentarily forgot who posted those great pics before. Ya do a great job with your ability/willingness to make things simple & clear. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
