Well today is the day that "Tweeter was introduced to the rest of the flock. Well atleast the other 4 that were out of quarentine. It was very funny to watch them play together and it seemed that he knew that they were the ones he was talking to all this time. Her are some pics:
![]() "Why are we all out here for?" ![]() "I heard another budgie is going to be joining us today" ![]() "There he is now" ![]() "So this is who I have been talking too for a month!!!" ![]() "Oh great!!! Another one, what is so exciting?!?" ![]() "I really like Houdini!!!" ![]() "Except when he cuts into my pictures!!" ![]() "HA! How do you like it??" ![]() "Ok, so lets all get ina circle and tell everone where your name, here I'll start." We are thinking of changing Tweeter's name to either Kiwi, Mango, Willow, or Shadow (because he aks like Houdini's shadow!!) What do you think?? Mean while still in quarentine are: "Twitter" Maybe soon to be daisy, sassy, or diva ![]() "I'm sill cute as ever!!" ![]() "What is that down there??" ![]() "How do you like this pose?!?" AND.....No Name ![]() "What is it with you and that thing??" ![]() "Don't I have a pretty face?" ![]() "OK, Mom its time for my nap now put that silver thingy away!!" Hope you like the pics from today.

Hi,
This is Melissa's mom and she is quite upset at the moment because the little budgie that we just got, Blossom, didn't make it. I told her from now on we are not getting a bird the night that they come in to the pet store. I think thats alot of stress on the bird and the pet store workers don't have time to see if the birds are healthy. Its been a little it of bad luck and Melissa is pretty upset. She is afraid that all of you will be upset with her but trust me she loves her flock and every new edition with all of her heart, so please don't be upset with her and give her some encouragement. Thanks~ Karen

Karen, you and your daughter must also understand that budgies in petstores may not come from the best breeders out there... Some birds may come from pet owners who didn't care what the birds wanted or thought it would be awesome to let their birds breed, but not really thinking about the birds overall general health. Some birds are so quickly mass produced that problems can go wrong such as birth defects, and what-not. Therefore, it would be easier to find a breeder who will ship a bird to you, a breeder that feeds their birds healthy foods such as vegetables, breads, pasta, rice, beans, etc. This way, it ensures healthier chicks, which can grow up stronger. Breeders who are too 'cheap' to feed their budgies this diet stick with seeds only.
Some petstores out there are getting better, but if it's a chain petstore or some of the lesser mom and pop shops, the birds inside can become tramautized as they may not get much interaction, people are sticking their fingers into the cages or tapping on the glass, among other things. For many birds, a petstore life is NOT the type of life a bird should be living, though sadly it does put down those few reputable stores out there who do a tremendous job with their animals! So please know, it's not really your guys fault if there was something wrong with the bird before it came home. Often-times, birds get a bacterial infection because of all the moving around, and the stress of a petstore or even being moved into a home. They are quite often afraid and not sure what to do. I love my flock as well, however I don't always have the best of luck with budgies around here. I'm sorry for the loss of your two budgies however, though maybe the two of you may want to look into a larger bird that isn't so 'fragile'? (so to speak... some people have great experience with petstore birds, or budgies for that matter, but for some people, they don't have much luck with the little guys... so something bigger, like a tiel or small conure, may be easier to care for...) In the least bit though, it's easy to tell that Melissa is a very dedicated parront to her little birds, and that she loves them so!

Sad for your loss, after all the excitement.
Cheer -up The quarrantine issues are a big concern though, as the lovely ones you have right now might be compromised by new additions, introduced too quickly. Hand washing is very important (especially around a stressed animal, as bacteria is harder to fight). You might look into what should be done to protect your flock, before you get another one, so no new accidents happen. Here is a web on Budgies by a German woman who takes in birds no one wants. It's heart warming & she has stories that put loss in perspective. She also has a sweet 'mascot' tiel drawing - http://www.birds-online.de/meine_sit...zeitige_en.htm I hope this will cheer you up.
