Unhappy Well, Louie almost had a girlfriend....

I was in Petsmart last night and looking at the budgies, as I always do, and noticed this gourgous girl, she had no bars on her at all, well they were there but they looked like very faint shadows of bars, and she had pied light powder blue markings all over her. She was sitting on the branch closest to me and this little 4 or 5 year old girl comes over and points to a totally different budgie on the other side of the cage for the girl to get for her. Well the girl went around back to catch it and , it took 5 minuets, but she ended up catching the girl I was looking at. By this time the young girls father was there and I told him that's not the one she was looking at, and he asked her if she wanted to come around and make sure that the one that was cought was the one that she wanted. Well I didn't hear what the girl said but I heard her father say "it doesn't make any difference to me, it's just a bird". So needless to say, they took her home. I just hope they take care of her. I'll get Louie a girl eventually.

I always look at the them to when I'm there. Well, I look at all the birds when I'm there Can't help myself, I'm addicted. That happen to me when I got my Parakeets. The 2 I wanted was so beautiful. I told the guy to hold them for me & I would get all the food & stuff I would need for them & come back & get them last. That way they didn't have to sit in a box any longer then the car ride home. When I went back to the bird section, they were gone. I was so mad at the guy for selling them. He didn't seem to care. Crystal

Ouch! - I hope it goes well too - what with the parent being so uninterested! - hope the Mom is different. Maybe next time you should stand up & claim the bird – no criticism to you, as I’m always hitting my head after something went down badly or awkwardly.

Maybe we should hand out flyers to new owners to check out bird boards, do research at the local library at least! I might take some in my pocket or purse the next time I go shopping. I always end up talking ‘bird’ at the pet stores - My major failing or strength (which is it?) is I'm not at all shy & ready to greet just about anyone (at least give them a chance).

I originally got a lot of my budgie info in the children’s section as it is a common pet for kids.

I think that would be an excellent idea homebird. I'm always in Petsmart. You can see from my list of baby's at the bottom, someone always needs food. Thats probably why I stay broke. lol But I think I will do the same thing next time I go too if my printer acts right. Its got a mind of its own. Crystal

We have a petco not too far from us that we go to sometimes. I always try to talk people out of buying birds there! One of the last times Iwas there this lady came in with her son and they were going to buy a parakeet. She started asking ?'s about general bird care and the employee had NO clue. I finally kind of stepped in and started talking to the lady. (the employee looked relieved and later thanked me saying she had no experience with birds at all!) I really tried to talk them out of buying - especially because one comment the mom made was that he wanted a tiel but she wasn't about to spend that much money on something that might die in a few weeks! I tried to explain to her that even a parakeet could live 10 yrs. or more. (she looked rather alarmed at the thought) They ended up taking a parakeet home anyway - but I suggested/begged that they do some research on the internet about keeping him healthy and how to interact with him. I tried to get her to buy him some toys before they left with him too - but they just bought a bag of seed and some plastic perches.

Jac, I think it's a great idea to have flyers to hand out when out and about in pet stores and such.

Arora, if you get Louie a girlfriend are you prepared to deal with the possibility of eggs?

Yes, I've thought of that, and i'm sure I could find good homes for them on here, through the adoption or for sale pages. I was thinking of going back to pets mart tonight, since i have to go anyway, just to see if they may have taken her back *fingers crossed* lol. oh I also saw this gourgouse finch that they had there, i'll post pics of him later, and if i had the money he would be comming home with me too, lol.
