New friend issues

I recently got a second Budgie to keep my first one company because he seemed lonely, and I'm gone quite a bit during the day. I've had the first one about 3 months, and both are male. I have separate cages for them, but decided to let them play together since they're always talking at each other from their own cages, but they seem to be fighting a lot more then they're actually being nice to eachother. Now, when they're back in their own cages, they talk to eachother constantly, but I'm scared they will hurt one another if I put them together. Help!! What should I do?

You should let them get to know eachother longer and put their cages close to eachother, but not right next to eachother if they can reach through the bars. They may never get along but you can try.

It will take time for them to get used to each other. They will always socialize (swak at each other) across the room but it dosen't mean they will get along if put together exspecialy in a small cage. If you allow them out of the cage to play just be sure to strongly supervise them.
