Where to find Hand Fed Budgie?

I would say for about 6 months I had looked for a hand fed budgie. Only once I had seen it advertised for sale and not since then. (It was green and I wanted more of a blue or slate color.) I know there is no profit to be had for breeders to hand fed budgies like they might get with cockatiels and lovebirds, but I wanted a hand fed budgie. People have told me that a young parent raised one should be fine, but I am set on a hand fed budgie. Is there any way I can find a hand fed budgie? I am almost willing again to go through handfeeding a baby bird if it is not worth it for someone to hand fed it to sell, but again, the only places with breeding budgies are aviary breeders and it is too much of a bother for them to sell a baby. Any suggestions? Anyone know where I can find one in Southern CA?

How many here have hand fed budgie and how many parent raised budgie since they were young? How is their tameness? Anyone here owned both to comment the differences in attitude, training, talking, etc?

I have a hand fed and a parent raised one, both are super tame. If you get a 6 week old budgie from a good breeder who handles their babies it will be just as tame as a hand fed one.

?????

I got Abbey at a pet only bird store that get their budgies from a local breeder.

Abbey was terrified of me when I first brought him home! I persevered and before I knew it .....he was handtamed!

Handfed or Parent reared........I think the trip home is unpleasant for all of them and scars them for awhile, but if you get them when they are babies and work hard with them.....I really do not think it matters who feeds them/

I agree with Diana that you can hand tame a budgie with a lot of patience - so if you cannot find a hand tame budgie, it is possible to tame them yourself. You just have to move slowly and go at the budgie's pace.

Nope, doesn't matter who feeds them either. I feed and water Lulu every day, and she does love me, but her true love is my husband.

I too wanted a hand fed Budgie. I ended up with an adult from a shelter. Athough all the talking Budgies are incredible I'm very happy with my non-talking bird who is a pest & a cocky little guy. He was pretty easy to tame - maybe he was tame before? He was & still is a little shy of hands. They are very curious & will interact dispite themselves so you can use this in trainiing.

Good luck in you research - post when you get one it will be fun hearing all about him/her.

When I got Jerry I had no idea that budgies were skilled talkers We researched briefly for a week on the very basics of bird care but it wasn't until a couple of months later that we realized he even had the possibility of talking
