Hey, don't beat yourself up, no one here is going to because you bought your bird! That's reserved for those other forums where everyones perfect.

You can hang kale or romaine lettuce in their cage, rinse it with water and leave it wet, they like that. I also use a potato peeler and slice thin slices of sweet potato and carrots and hang that in their cage too. They seem to go for leafy or thin stuff rather than cut up. That's with my budgies, others may have different experience.

You should offer them pellets, I put them in a seperate dish and hang it near the perch they use the most. Some people mix the pellets with the seed but my guys will not touch it that way. A good food to mix with their seed is Higgins fruit and veggie mix for small hookbills, they seem to like that.

it is going to take some time younger birds are more likely to try differn't & new foods
my birds will only eat carrots but I got them all to eat pellets it took a little over a year but it was well worth the effort juist try putting new foods in the earily morning & again at night when birds tend to eat the most

make sure that if you trying fruits or veggies that you only give them 15 minutes or so cause they will spoil

Fresh foods can be left in the cage for up to 2 hours, though in some areas with warmer humid climates, they should be taken out sooner as they'll spoil sooner where'as in some cooler temps fresh foods may be fine for another hour or so but NOT more than 4 hours max. Ice can help to keep some fresh foods fresh as well.
