I've created a monster.....

I have been cooking "simmer and soak" (mix of beans, barley, etc) for my "bigger" birds for quite a while and give the budgies a bit. They were not at all interested at first, but have been getting more and more interested. Well, now the tiels and IRNs are interested, but the budgies have a feeding frenzy -- they belong to the clean plate club! So, now I am cooking for 18 instead of for six. Haven't offered it to the canaries or finches yet

I bet the canaries would at least give it a try. I soak and slightly sprout a mixture like that of my own and the canary and finches poke around in it every day with the tiels.

That's pretty cool!

Is it 'Soak & Simmer' or 'Simmer & Soak'?? - in the recipe section?
- Ok I'll give it a go this week & see if it goes over. I want the baby to try all sorts of stuff before he's influenced by Laker.

Lol! My lot are like that. "Nahh... don't want it...... well... wait... no... I do... and I'll attack you for it next time just to prove how much I like it!"

I found mashed swede went down just as well with mine.

So it's a soup mix or veggie stew? Are there herbs & spices in it?

Bonesy - what's mashed swede?

You run after a Swedish bloke, bop him on the head, simmer him for 30 minutes & put him through a potato ricer!

Lol, only kidding. It's also known as rutabaga.

Rutabaga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Root veg similar to a turnip, but quite sweet in taste. Birds love the stuff mashed with a tiny smidgen of low-fat margarine in it.

The one I got sounds about the same. It had different kinds of beans, veggies, herbs, etc in it. You can get it at Petsmart. Lately I have been just going to the store & getting something thats called "15 bean soup". I don't use the powder mix that comes with it in the little packet cause I don't know if the fids can have it or not. Then I just add the veggies, noodles, herbs, etc to it. Most of the time my fids eat it right up. Except for the other day when they were being stubborn. Crystal
