Eggs, eggs and more eggs!!!!!

My parakeet won't stop laying eggs!

As of last night she has layed 6 eggs and one that was about 1/3 the size of the rest.

Munchers will be 3 years old this August and this is the first breeding season she has ever done this (laid eggs).
In September I added a male budgie to the flock (I think this initiated her to start laying) but they are in seperate cages and the only one she has eyes for is me...ummm, I know this because anytime I talk to her or take her out of her cage this is what I get for the first few minutes...

I just worry because twice now I've been able to catch her in the act and it just looks so painful! I'm trying to supplement her diet right now as well because I can only imagine it's taking a toll on my baby girl to lay so many eggs.

So my question is this, how long is this going to last?! I've also read that if you put a marble in their cage they will stop laying , but the one time I left an egg in there for a day all she did was sit on it.

I just want my lil girl to be back to normal!

Whatever you do, don't remove the eggs. Everytime you remove one, she will lay another one. This can cause serious calcium deficiency. Just let her sit on them until she is not interested any more, might be as much as 30-35 days. This is a normal hormonal thing, and you can't stop her from doing it. You can give her more sleep, turn the temperature down in her room, and change her cage around with everything moved. And don't let her near the male if you don't want her to breed. They can see and hear each other, but no tango. You can also use fake eggs (or marbles), just leave them in there and let her sit on them. Your girl won't get back to what she was, until the season is over.

I believe that a normal budgie clutch is about 6 eggs.

I agree with dancelady, to let her sit on the eggs. Once she realizes that they won't hatch (if you're switching out the real ones with the fake ones) she'll abandon them. If you keep removing them she'll lay more.

Do you have a nestbox in the cage? If you do, take it out. Or is she laying the eggs on the cage floor?

Thank you both for your responses.

I do not have a nest box, she is just laying them at the bottom of the cage.

I will try the marble and see if that helps.
