Broken leg

How can a person tell if a budgie's leg is broken or just bruised? There is no apparent break or bones or blood.

My keet had a very short fall yesterday, about 12 inches. and has not stood on the leg since.

Any advice?

The best way is off to the avian vet for an x-ray asap. Otherwise just watch and everything may turn out fine if just bruised or sore etc.....Always best to be on the safe side though, so if ya truly love your little budgie with your whole heart and want to take no chances, then I would get to the avian vet asap. Another reason I suggest not clipping a bird. If it is just a baby and can't fly anyway then that is another story, then you just need to be more careful in the future.

Hi All!

:( Baz's leg was broken..and now healed. :D I am now about to put him back in the cage with his female budgie, but looks like there is now a problem.

They have lived for over a year in Peace and in Haromony...all though I never saw one preen the other.

For the past week I had both their cages (his 'hospital' one) next to each other, opened and they got along fine. Yesterday, I put Baz back in thier regular cage and they fought. I seperated them.

Any advice? Do I just throw him in there and hope they get over it? :?

First off, he lost his territory and place in the cage that they lived in together... You need to remove them both, possibly from the room, COMPLETELY change their cage around, maybe even move it to some other spot, then try putting them both in the cage at the same time.

If that doesn't work then you may need to try using a different cage. Otherwise, you may have a hard time getting them to share a cage without having the female of the two start to bicker at the male.

Glad to hear though that Baz recovered!
