Picture of my parakeet.

Here is a picture of my male parakeet, Herbie. My sister gave him to me as a present on July 3, 04. I also have a male american singer canary. I think I will post a picture of him in the canary section. Anyway I used to keep my parakeet and Canary in the same cage but recently I took the canary out after he had hurt his leg to give him some time for his leg to heal. Ever since my parakeet has started this annoying habit of trying to knaw the metal bars off of his cage trying to get out. he usually does this early in the morning and it gets pretty annoying to here the pinging sound of him knawing on the bars. I intend to put the canary back in soon with the parakeet since his leg is doing a lot better. Do you think the parakeet just misses my canary?

Pretty bird. I don't know about keeping a keet with a canary you were doing that and the keet never tried to hurt the canary? Keet's are kinda aggressive against other birds I wouldn't recommend keeping a canary with one. My keet Neo had the exact same habit I know exactly what your talking about and it would drive me up the walls even though he had plently of toys he did this. I figured out he did it when he wanted out or attention but also he likes to chew so I got him a manzanita perch and put it where he was picking and it really helped. I also rotate his toys and make sure he has toys that make noise like bells and that really helps for some reason he just likes noise. And he hasn't done it in months. But I'm not sure about the canary.

Thankyou both. My Herbie does have a lot of toys in fact it would be pretty crammed in his cage if I put them all in at once so I leave some out and every once in a while I switch them. He doesn't really seem to bother the canary much although once in a while when the canary was eating he would scare him away by flying down next to him near the food dish and sometimes he pesters the canary (I don't know what he is trying to do but the canary ends up flapping his wings at him with is mouth open).
I think I will try to put a toy in the spot where he has been pecking. Today I put them back together again and they seem to be doing fine. The are sitting next to each other on their perch right now. I will keep an eye on them. -midnytAngel18

I'm an idiot

I am such an idiot :eusa_wall . I put them back together on tuesday and today on thursday when I came back from college I found my canary sitting in the food dish with his leg all bloody again. It was the same leg that got hurt before. Before I thought he might have hurt it on something sharp in the cage but now I'm pretty certain it was my parakeet. I'll never put them in the same cage again. He doesn't use his right leg. I hope he is ok.

The others were right about putting parrakeets in with other birds, parrakeets can be aggressive as I own 4 myself. Keep a eye on your little birdies leg, you don't want no infection to set in. Maybe you should take it to the vet to be on the safe side, best of luck, keep us posted.!!!!!!!! :eusa_pray

hE'S A BEAUTY any chance you could let him just fly around. Mt female Tallon is a free roamer even though I got the little girl a huge parrot cage. I just hate caging her up so I open the doors to her cage when I get up and lock her up when we go out or at night. She has been a whole lot happier since I started doing that.

I believe you have a female budgie as it looks like Herbie has a white cere (nose). Am I correct in saying this??? I do believe that Herbie is a female as a males cere looks like a blue or purple waxy color. Herbies cere looks white.

Females tend to be more aggressive with other birds however males usually tend to pester the other birds more frequently. It's best though to keep these two different birds apart for the canaries benefit, and well his life.
