Smile Getting my parakeets to eat right

Hello everyone,
about a month ago one of my neighbors moved away and decided to give me her two beautiful parakeets (Sammy and Rosy). I have tried several different things to get them to eat veggies and fruit but they refuse no matter what I try. I think they were only seed fed. I've tried tricking them by putting peanut butter and seeds on the outside of the veggie so they might take a few bites, but all they eat is the seeds. Some suggested hard boiled egg, and steamed carrots. No luck though, any suggustion on how to get my keets eating healthy?
Any help is well appriciated:)

Just keep trying different things, and try them over and OVER. They may not try it the first time, or the second, or the fifth...

Try asparagus, spinach (mine love spinach, but it took a few goes for them to realise that it was edible), anything dark green. Also, you can put wheetbix (not sure if you have something like that there?) with water, and give them that. Toast in the mornings. Just keep plugging at them! :D

Parla is right about persistance!
Now, I dont know if these birds are social with you or not right now, but For me what got mine finally trying new things, was just time with us. They will be really interested in what YOU are eating, so as long as it's bird-safe, you can offer them some also. With much frustrating time of being VERY finicy, my bird now wants every single thing my husband and I eat because we're his flock...that probably didn't help you much...lol

You can also mix in with their seeds, some dried veggies and fruit. They are by a company called "Just Tomatoes" "Just Corn" etc. They are dried fruit and veggies with no additives or preservatives. I always mix that in all the foods for my birds, plus offer fresh. The keets and tiels still refuse the fresh, but do eat the dried that I mix in with their regular diet. This was offered as an alternative by my vet, as some birds do not like the texture of fresh, especially naturally seed eating birds (they like the crunch of the dried).

Keep offering the fresh, but you can also mix in some dried as well. Eventually they will eat the fresh (I'm still waiting for that to happen, but lately they've at least been trying it).

Another good alternative is some birdy bread that you make with Jiffy Corn Muffin (Bread) Mix and through in finely diced carrots, broccoli, eggs (w/the shells finely ground up), etc. It is healthy and most birds love it. Mine do.

It took a long time for Tallon to try new stuff too. Now she will eat anything!! LOL She loves mashed potatoes, one time she ate so much of it she couldnt fly LOL. But now she eats apples(fresh), oranges, lettuce, collards, you name it. she will also eat raw flour when I'm making bread. She likes to "ice skate" in it! They also love meat! Little carnivoir loves chicken and turkey! But she also puts away a ton of seed, its amazing how much she can eat at times but she really pops the calories with all that flying. Those little wings really pump!
