Talking two cages in one?

ok, since im thinking about getting another bird, i was thinking about a lot of things. mainly housing. how i would keep the two seperate at first and where to put the new one. first, is the other side of my living room okay? our house is pretty old so upstairs gets very hot and very cold depending on the temperature. the dining room and breezeway gets a lot of cold breezes in winter from opening the door.
anyway, when i got Baby a new, bigger cage i think i remember seeing cages in the store that were lik two cages attached to each other at the side. almost like a really big cage divided in half with bars. if my budgies dont end up getting along in the end, and if this kind of cage actually exists, would this be a suitable arrangement for the two? if they hate each other i would obviously have to put a cover in between the two so they dont fight through the bars, but would this work? the problem is that my parents dont want two cages permanently since they cause so much mess. and could this work if i got a cockatiel? ( a good way to tell my parents that they wouldnt have to worry about another mess in another part of the house. thx guys

If quarantine is at all possible, it needs to be done at the furthest point in the house away from the current bird. However sadly, this is not always possible for every bird owner and that owner runs the risk of getting their current bird(s) sick. There are cages made so that they split in the middle (so that the cages are attached at the sides or stacked one ontop of the other) though cages that are normally attached at the sides cannot be taken apart though occasionally some you can remove the middle wire to make one larger cage. Most of the cages that are stackable can be dissasembled into two cages rather than one whole cage setup with two cages...
