Budgie suddenly lost flight feathers

Hello,

Last night I went over to a friend's house to meet her daughter's budgie. She has been telling me that the bird is fully flighted and "flies around like crazy". When she took her out of her cage, she tried to fly, but quickly floated to the floor. Turns out, most of her flight feathers had fallen out within a period of maybe a day. I'm guessing that she's going through her first major moult, but is it normal to lose her flight feathers so completely and suddenly? I would think that, in the wild, this wouldn't happen as it would severely disadvantage the bird. She otherwise seems very healthy and happy. She's probably a little less than a year old.

Thanks in advance for any advice/help..:)

Hi
I have never heard of such a thing. She should take him to the vet maybe!

That does sound very unusual indeed. I hope the bird is being taken to a vet? Let us know what happens!

Thanks for the replies. I've advised my friend that they should take her to the vet, so hopefully she'll be OK.
