Quarantine

It is so hard doing a 30 day quarantine. My 2 budgies are separated in 2 different rooms in my apartment since the 10th of this month. So that makes it another 10 days before they can be in the same room, right? The new one seems very healthy but has some odd behavioral traits that makes him unique to Benu. They keep calling back and forth to one another and it sometimes drives me mad...haha When I do bring the new bird into my living room (Benu has his cage in the living room) they will still be in separate cages. Will they still do calls to each other even though they can see each other or only if they can't see each other?

Hang in there-time will go by before you know it! They will probably always call to each other, but after a while you will tune it out

Thanks.

It sure is funny how different their calls are to each other. I can't wait to record it when they are both in the same room. I got a small clip with them in separate rooms, but you can barely hear Kon in the bedroom.

I went through the same thing, kept Winston in a separate room for a little over 30 days. They wouldn't call back and forth all the time but it just drove me mad with anticipation of their first meeting Once they see each other I doubt they'll do the contact calling back and forth, but the vocalizations/singing will be louder and double of that of a single budgie It's really neat once they start incorporating each other's vocalizations into their own - Jerry began speaking exactly like Winston right away and now they've pretty much melded each others' voices into a new voice and neither sound exactly the way they did when they were on their own.

The 30th day lands on the 8th a Monday, so on Tuesday the 9th I will be putting them in the same room. They are both still calling to each other. Sometimes it almost seems like they get mad at each other and start screaming fits. Do males get mad when another male out calls him?

Quarantine is almost over and Kon sure seems healthy.

IT IS FINALLY TIME!

They are both in the same room finally. I wish I had the day off, but I have to work today. So tomorrow they will meet outside the cage for the first time. I will also try to record Kon's calls. They are different from Benu's.

Aww I'm sure they'll be very happy together :)

Just out of curiousity, why do you keep them separate for such a long time? I noly ever keep mine separate for 2 weeks, it gives me time to treat them for any possible mites etc and to watch them for signs of illness.

I was told quarantine should be one month, so that is what I did.

Today was actually the first day they meet in person outside their cages. I set up a temporary play gym. It took a while to stop them both from flying off it...

Just give them some time and they'll come around! They will be buddies in no time. :)

I applaud you--you stuck to the whole quarentene thing. It is so important for the health of our birds! :)
