My Budgies are getting tame!!

If anyone's seen a thread I started a couple of weeks ago, I tried taming my boys by taking them into the bathroom with me, sitting in the bathtub with a glass of wine and a good book, and let them wander about until they figured out that I wasn't gonna eat them. Spent some time trying to get them to step-up, and ended up chasing them around the bathroom several times. Kept that up for 1/2 hour and put them back in their cage.

For the next few nights I put the cage on my bed, opened the door, stuck my hand in with some millet, and tried to entice them to eat the millet. Had some success there, and over the next few days did the same thing, and they freaked out less and less each day.

I moved their cage to the porch with my other birds, who have the run of the porch since their cages are always open, keeping my budgies locked up in their cage. Since I'm gone during the day, I have no idea if my other birds are able to make it over and up to the budgies cage (they're all clipped, can't get altitude, but are growing out), but I know they get as close as they can and they all yell at one another.

When I came home from work today, my tiel, gcc, and parrotlet were all chirping hello to me as they usually do, and when I went to the porch to say hi to them, the budgies (hereinafter referred to as "the boys") were jumping around back and forth in front of the cage door, as if they wanted to come out! I wasn't sure if that's what they wanted because they've always been afraid of me, but I opened the cage door and they jumped on the door and got on my finger (well, one did...the other is still a bit skittish) and let me pet and kiss him! They tried to get off the porch and into the living room, which they did, and were just like hyper little freaks trying to check everything out! I put them back in their cages after petting them some more because it was starting to get dark and the other birds were loose and I didn't want anyone trying to nip anyone else.

I am so excited, they seem to be getting tame! Now, if the other 3 will get along with them, it will be great! Couldn't spend too much time with them today...can't wait until I get home from work tomorrow!

Great job! As soon as you get one to be really brave, the rest will usually follow suit

Yeah...my pic is a pain...one day I'll get around to fixing it.

Today the boys were scared again. I can always get them, but every day it's like it's a brand new experience for them! That's ok, I know that eventually they will get it. They were on the floor walking around and trying to avoid me, and my green cheek just looked at them...he didn't try to go after them. Pretty good, considering it took him a while to "get over" the addition of my parrotlet. The other birds seem to not really care too much. We'll see what happens tomorrow!
