Will My Budgie Die of Hunger???

I had successfully turn one of my budgies to go from seed to pellets, but I didn't feed him seeds for two days, with only pellets on his cup. He ended up eating it. Now he eats it, although, when seeds is a choice, he will choose seeds.

I am now trying to get my other budgie to eat pellets too and I have not been giving her seeds in two days and I know that she pick on the pellets a little, but not sure how much of it she has consumed. How much longer should I go without giving her seeds? Will she die of hunger?

How many days can budgies last without any food in the stomach?

Well, just taking the seed away and forcing your bird to eat pellets is never the way it should be done, i beleive. I would give her her seed back and slowly try and make the switch from seed to pellet - it sounds like taking away her seed altogether is doing more bad than good.

I have been trying the slowly process for months now. It was not working. She's not eating the pellets.

Not the way to do it! Add some pellts to her seed and let her start nibbling. Also put a little dish in of pellets soaked in apple juice so they get crumbly. If a bird does'nt eat new food they can become very weak if not also offered their regular food.

So you decide to starve her? try other things, soak the pellets in water or apple juice, do something other then taking away her seed altogether.

What's with the soaking in apple juice? I didn't know they like wet food.

well you just have to keep offering the pellets in different ways. Maybe your budgie wont eat it in apple juice, either. but its worth a try. i would say its better to give him back his seed and let him eat that than to starve him.

Some birds never learn to like pellets. I'd give the seed back, I have to know my birds are eating, no starving at my house. Just be very careful, do more research.

Just because it may have worker with your other budgie doesn't mean it will work with all of them. Did your other budgie starve for a few days, too? It doesn't matter what happened with your other budgie (although i hope he's okay) the point is taking away this budgies food supply and starving him in the process isn't the right thing to do. give him his food back - he might never try the pellets this way and you will *not* have a very heathly bird on your hands.
