What veggies...

Hey yall, I was wondering which veggies your budgies seem to like the best? I have tried a few with my little girl, and well with broccoli she just seems to attack it LOL. Its quite humorous to watch actually. I know they can eat different veggies, but I was just wanting to see which ones others seem to like the best and try those first before spending a bunch of money on all kind of veggies that she might not like.
I dont eat a lot of fresh veggies myself so what she doest eat, I have to throw away. LOL

So just curious....

Vicki

When it comes to giving food to your birds, I find its really trial and error. I tried everything with Oliver my parrotlet and he likes corn, peas and thats it, LOL. Hes really a fruit eater. Neko my painted conure will eat anything.

I would try peas and corn. I think the smaller birds like these because they are small and can be pulled apart easily. Also mashed up green beans is a hit around here.

I gave her a piece of corn on the cob, I think she liked it but it was hard for her to get the corn off the cob...cuz the cob was flopping all over the place in the cage lol
I heard something about kabob things specially made for birds where you can put things like that on them...but dont know where to find one...that would be perfect for her I think.

vegies

My budgie, Alice Cooper loves broccoli, corn, and sweet potato. She also likes snow pea shoots- the sort you get to put in salads. I find she eats well if whatever I offer is held firmly in a clip on the cage wall.

You can make a kabob out of a knitting needle, just bend the blunt end over to form a hook using a pait of pliers, then all you do is thread veges and fruit on this and hang it up. You just have to put a hard veg or fruit on last to stop stuff sliding off.

Hmmm now thats a thought, never thought of a knitting needle, I will definitely look into getting one. She did seem to like what I gave her, even though it was like she was killing the brocolli hehee but she couldnt keep the corn still to eat it, as I really didnt have a way of securing it in the cage.
But I will try the needle suggestion. Thank you so much.

My budgies always loved dark leafy greens -- romaine lettuce, fresh spinach, collard greens etc. Or if you have a place you *know* hasn't been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides, fresh dandelion greens! I'd clip them to the side of the cage and they'd nibble at them for hours.

What the budgie doesn't eat, you can try to feed to the dogs lol... I don't know about yours, but one of mine LOVES veggies, and the other will eat them just 'cause the first one does.
