Pictures of the kids

So here they are

Charlie, my foster kid, plucking is slowed. I'm still trying to figure the stem of his problem, it is not medical he's been checked through and through Hmmm...
I have been fostering him for just over two months now. he will be for adoption... maybe eventually that is if he doesn't find his very own perfect home.

And Odie

Four year old hen that I bred, her Popa lived to 18 years old and she's got some big shoes to fill,

They are both 'tame' in the sense that I am a complete slave to them, they happily hang out on our shoulders and seek out our company. Which is wonderful. I recently found out another 'plucker' will be added to the budgie flock. He's a bit of a meanie, but when he gets the all good in the health department he'll be coming here. :)

And a not so Budgie photo of the 'family' (I moved out of the nest not too long ago so she's still 'mine' hehe) Cockatoo,
Louie a 30 something-or more- sulpher (pretter sure lesser)

she plucks when alone :(

Anyway those are my kids!

awww, all of them are so sweet looking :). but, it's sad to hear that the two pluck; i hope you're able to find out the cause for Charlie and eliminate the behaviour! btw, could it possibly be due to metal toxicity? was this checked for during the vet checks? i've read that some will pluck due to being ill from a toxicity. also, have you tried anything for Louie's plucking issue? it always makes me sad to read that a bird plucks :(.

Charlie has been to the vet and we had the blood work done and the vet couldn't find anything medically wrong with him. I have found that when he doesn't get at least 12 hours of sleep he plucks more the next day, He's learning to play through Odie and us teaching him. I have him under full spectrum lighting, as well as a diet change, he was on a poor quality all seed diet before now he is on Harrison's for pellets and fresh fruit, veggies, legumes and sprouts. That seems to have encouraged the feather growth. When watching him preen he'll be happily preening properly then grab one feather in the bunch and pull it out, chew on that for a while then spit it out then continue preening properly.

Here is a picture of him when he first came here

(July 25th this year)

I think we finally figured out what Louie's problem is, separation anxiety/not know what to do with herself when she's alone. She spent the first 25 years of her life in a business place were she saw/interacted with people non-stop during daylight hours, then she came to our house/family when the health inspector said she had to go. She doesn't really know what to do with herself when she doesn't have constant contact (she's only left alone for about 5 hours max a day) enter the plucking. So we are trying to teach her how to play with toys (she never had them prior) but she's more interested in playing with US haha. but now that we know where her problem stems from we're taking the steps to try to alleviate her stresses.
