Feeding my bird?

So I got my budgie yesterday and I was told to feed it seed, now I know that this is really healthy for them but is there a better type of food for them everyone I've talked to have all said that seed is the best but I thought I would ask you guys

Thanks

Im sure you are speaking of pellets, which are very healthy for birds and provide a full nutritional diet that seed cannot give. You can buy it most places, I recommend roudybush although I know it is pretty expensive, but I use it and wont use anything else. I would mix the pellets 50/50 with the seed to encourage them to eat it and once you see pellets are being eaten slowly take out the seed. Do NOT just take out the seed and put in pellets expecting your bird to eat it, this can starve your bird. I still give seeds to my budgie and my parrotlet, about 15% of their diet, just because I know they love it so much. But they are eating pellets which is wonderful.

Keep us posted!! Your new baby is adorable by the way, I love the colors!!!

Budgies are granivores and do well on a whole grain mix (millet, oat groats, hulless barley, quinoa, buckwheat, wheat berries, kamut, spelt, wild rice). They also need some fresh greens. You can try hanging wet leafy greens in the cage (they'll get a bath too!). Kale, collard, mustard greens, dandelion greens, broccoli leaves, peeled stalks and heads, etc., are all good ones to try. I have read that Budgies do not do well on a complete pellet diet, but fine to feed them part of the diet in a good, natural colored pellet that has Vit. D3 supplementation. The pellets will give complete protein in addition to vitamins and minerals.

I feed my Budgie the same as my other birds except he and the P'let get more grains (sprouted) at lunch time. So he gets Shauna's Mash diet plus extra sprouted grains, lots of fresh food.

just remember that if you do choose pellets, don't feed *only* pellet. an only pellet (or only seed) diet isn't good - mix lotsa veggies and some fruits in (:
