Question Caged budgie into aviary?

Bullie is untrained and scared of me, She is almost 2 years old and I just want her to have a better life! I really love Bullie but I think she would be happier in an aviary with other birds.

Is it possible to do this?

Yes, she could be put into an aviary with other budgies... but it's also possible to tame her. Plenty of threads on that subject.

like Monica said, you can tame her or put her into an aviary. if you decide to keep her, just remember that she will need lots of interaction (in my opinion, many hours a day) from you and from the other members of your family. all birds need interaction with the humans in their lives, but especially with single birds since they can get lonely. also, lots of supervised out of cage time is needed too.

if you are going to attempt to tame her, then please search the forums as there are many threads, as Monica said, on the subject.

good luck and keep us posted :)

You can tame her, yes. There are plenty of threads regarding how to do that (most popular Ive seen is millet training). However, I think a budgie would thrive in a aviary situation. Most birds are social birds and I think that they enjoy being around birds and socializing, especially in an aviary situation where there is enough room to fly around and play and also do their own thing. Good luck with your decision, keep us posted!!

Personally i'd put her in aviary (after proper quarantine of course) *or* get a partner for it.
Depending on your definition of "tame" you can get her/them tame just by letting them fly around the house. Pretty soon they will be interested in you and what you're doing, and one day they will sit on your shoulder/hand and be totally fearless.
(At least mine did, without me even really trying to tame them)
The male in particular was fond of preening the back of my neck as i was sitting at the computer :)

Thanks guys! :-)
I think I may give one last shot at taming her. I just think she is depressed because I have bought friends for her before but they both died and Bullie never really got over it. I just think she deserves to be able to fly around with plenty of little budgie friends :-)

don't want to jump to conclusions, but i have to ask: what did the two birds die of? could it have been a disease?? if so, it could have been passed onto Bullie...consequently, i would have her seen by an avian vet asap.

I had 2 budgies through the years that did not want to know me. I know now though all I was doing wrong. I kept them though and they were out of cage now and then, not much at all. Had a mirror perch and swing and lived on seed or maybe a bit of apple shoved through the wire. I was so unintentionally ignorant. One died from a tumour and the other because my husband brought in some thistle that had been caught in spray drift.

Wow, all I could have really done for them now.

If you are tired of her being scared, patient training will do the trick

Well one died of sickness but that was a long time ago and Bullie seems fine. A vet lives next door and he said that the chances of Bullie catching it are quite slim because Gylfie died a while ago.
