Thumbs down A new friend found ME! Need help in nameing him.

My roommate went over to pick up his laundry, at the apt.' washer/dryers this morning and as he was coming out, there, shivering and chilled, was a cute little parakeet! He tried to get him on his finger, but he just ran around, but didn't fly off. He went in and go a pillow case and gently gathered him up in it, and let it go in my room, while I slept.
I woke up to see the cutest little blue 'keet, sitting calmly on mu monitor.
I have another bird, a hand fed male cockatiel, named Icarus. The seem to be getting along, sharing some millet spray, without quarreling.
I have 2 cages allready, so they could have separate quarters, but I should get another one, just for the parakket, I think.
I haven't named him yet, but I am looking for somthing from ancient Greek mythology, like Icarus, my cockatiel.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Echo is a nymph who fell in love with Narcissus. she could not tell him of her love because she was under a curse which allowed her to repeat only the last word of what was said to her. This name came from the book about greek myths called "heros, gods, and monsters" It just sounds like a cute little myth. congrats on your new friend:)

Before I'd go thinking about what to name my new friend, I'd try and find the people who are probably missing him/her first. How would you feel if you lost a bird, and someone else took it in and kept it?

They can also fly so I would be looking for lost adds, doing flyers for telephone poles, letting any pet shops/vets nearby know you have found one. You do not have to go into detail eg markings, colour so you can tell if an enquiry is genuine. If I had lost one I would certainly be looking.

I was wondering if you have thought about quarrentine? This poor little guy may be carrying something which could infect your pet...best not let them share food or water, keep them apart (in another room if possible)and tend to your bird first then the new guy. Also make sure you wash your hands before touching your bird after touching the new bird or his stuff. Quarrentine should be 40 days (or so).

Difficult if not impossible to quarantine a bird brought into the home, as the most deadly diseases/viruses that cause diseases (however one wants to put it) are airborne.

The really only true effective quarantine would be in a separate building and the OP would have to remove clothes at some point between the quarantine building and his home, wash his clothes, shower and put on fresh clothes before going home. Sounds a bit extreme I know. But from what I have read, that seems the most effective quarantine.

Someone else may have another idea.

Check him for mites, as he has been out in the wild and possibly in contact with other birds. If he has a disease (such as psittacosis for example), you can catch that too so wash your hands well after touching him and clean his cage out every single day to prevent airbiorn particles from his poo drying up and becoming airborn.

Things are going well, for new roomates!
I check Hermes, the new parakeet, for mites and clipped his wings. Now he's starting to trust me and sit on a finger and even came with Icarus (my 'tiel) and I when I went to make a bagle.
They are a little like kids, though, quarrelling occasionally, but I often let them work it out, and not play favorites.
no calls on the signs I put up, for lost birds, but as fast as he is calming and trusting, tells me he has been around humans before, but he's so tiny, and has a lot of black bands, so I don't think he's more than a year old. His head is still too big for his body, like babies are, too.

Very interesting! I reminds me a female human friend of mine, who seems to have a habit of repeating the last word or two, when she is closely paying attention to what I say! HAHA!
I named my bird Hermes. He's a male, I'm pretty sure, from tyhe behaviors I'm seeing and his blue cere. He's a bright blue parakeet with some yellow in his flying feathers, wich had to go, for now, till he gets used to us.

That seems to be happening quiet fast! He's finger and shoulder trained now, mimicing my Cockatiel, Icarus. He's also sleeping some, during the ay, out in the open, curled behind his back, as comfy as could be. He's just starting to mimic a "how are you?" and "wolfe whistle", like both I and Icky do.

I was originally worried about having 2 birs, in that they may bond with eachother an not me. That didn't happen, because one bird ha allready bonded, and the other is semming to follow suit.
