i second this!!! if there's any change in behaviour, i would take him to the vet. so, glad to hear he's acting normal.

There was no change at all in his behaviour until this morning when I found him dead. He was eating, drinking, pooping fine. No more bleeding and he was happy and chirping.

This sucks.

:(

I'm sorry, Kali. At least you know his last few weeks were happy ones.

I'm so sorry Kali. I just saw this thread. You did give him a good home for his last couple of weeks. Be happy you got to share eachother for a little while.

gosh, so sad. i'm so sorry to hear.

i will keep him in my prayers tonight. may he finally fly free and be in peace.

but, having reread this thread, i realize i should have advised an avian vet visit asap because you said: the collision was really hard, there was some damage to the feather follicles, he lost a lot of blood, and he was quiet for a little while before perking up.... arghh, honestly, i didn't think about it at the time; you just said he was acting normal after, and so i was fooled into thinking he was fine...i didn't even think that he could have been hiding being sick afterward when he was acting "normal".... arghh, i just feel horrible!

for anyone else reading this who experiences something like this, please take them to the vet asap. time is really of the essence, as we have seen; and, behaviour isn't really indicative of illness since they can hide illness so well.

I should have taken him to the vet, and really i was prepared to if i had noticed ANYTHING out of the ordinary. He was quiet for about ten mins after i stopped the bleeding and he just returned to normal. I didn't notice anything at all out of the ordinary, and i was checking on him all the time.

Goes to show how good they are at hiding it. I thought i was smart enough to see through it.

Lesson learned, drop everything and take them to the vet.

Condolences to you and your loss!!!! Well, it seems losing a budgie is becoming soo common that its almost what i expect to read when i sign in, here :(
However, we need to keep doing as much and as astute as we ever have been for our birds, dont we?
I am not over losing my sweet Hen a few months ago, but it is my utmost duty and pleasure to help all Birdboard members through these tough times.
...may your sweet budgies spirit be reborn into another budgie....
