Budgie Bleeding

Today I was taking the 'kids' out of their cages and Sir Waddlesworth freaked and flew into a wall. He had some damage to his feather follicles when i got him and he must have knocked that wing because suddenly there was blood EVERYWHERE! All over my hands, pants, computer EVERYTHING. I didn't think such a little bird could have so much blood! After freaking out and calling Mel for help, I ended up putting corn flour on it and let him settle on the couch without the mean conures around. He sat there really quiet for a while before waddling around and chirping again!

So, has this happened to you before? Did you freak out as bad as i did, or worse? The one thing I've learned about budgies in the past month or so is that they are so delicate! I'm used to bigger, 'tougher' birds... He's not tough at all, and everyone is so mean to him!

That awful! Poor baby! Best to go get a vet check in case of internal damage or broken or cracked bones.

I would freak as much as you but have not had that happen..touch wood. Cayenne pepper too is a great anticoagulant and mild antisceptic for both humans and pets. I have them both in my first aid box.

Treating Wounds With Cayenne Pepper

People have stated it works better than cornflour on another board.

i'm glad you got the bleeding to stop - keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't break the feather again.
i know what you mean with delicate - i had budgies for many years, and they are fragile.

watch the little one - if there's anything that changes take him to the vet immediately. there's some risk for internal damage in situations like the one you described

I will keep a close eye on him. Poor little tyke. He's back to his normal self after his little freak out. I can hear him chirping right now! He's hopping from branch to branch and eating/drinking so i think he'll be fine. he just scared the begeezus out of me!

Blood kinda freaks me out...

Hi , i know you mean well and want the very best for them all. But, i think your only little budgie should be kept in an area so its not to disturbed... so sweetie can be at peace and be monitored closely for ANY other possible injurys. They hide them sooo well!!!!!
Swift recoverys!!!!
