Seems like this board is full of very nice, mature adults (or at least mature people). I'm extremely pleased to see this, I've been in some forums where people mention one word against the pet of choice for the forum, everyone goes into 3 year old tantrum mode.

morality issues aside I will say this. We do the best by our birds by stimulating them with as many naturalities as possible. Its good for them as they are a near wild species.....any animal kept should be treated this way.....If you keep animals you should in fact go out of your way to make there lives as natural as possible. If you keep reptiles so be it, variety in foods is best we all can agree on that. Snakes eat anything alive that is the right size and get the nutrients and stimulation to survive a good healthy life. I dont see a problem with feeding your pets whatever is natural in the diet. If you cannot do that then you should not own the pet. period. If you dont like it you really dont have the place to comment if it is for the good of the animal am I correct? If per say a budgie is the easiest type of bird to feed a bird eating snake than thats what they need to do. I personally could not do it so therefore I could not own a bird eating snake. But its really not a moral issue at all then.

So, feeding them rats is okay. What about rabbits, cats, small size dogs?

*shrugs*

its true. Rats are smart, affectionate, playful. Most people don't see that, and its their loss.

about the feeding small dogs, cats and rabbits.. uhh, i agree with Lori. I, personally could not do it because i would feel bad for the other animals and want to save them, but a snake needs to eat, too. Dogs and cats may not be what the need to eat in the wild, but whatever they do need they should have it provided to them.

Heck, if I had a large enough snake and it wasn't illegal I'd feed it babies. And there are too many stray and feral cats and dogs out there, sure, feed 'em to the snakes.

Shadow, just like I said, people DO feed rabbits, and also, the "largest snake in the world" eats dogs. Just because you choose it as your pet, doesn't mean other animals don't use it as food. I LOVE rats too and have had pet ones, I don't feed ALIVE rats and mice to my snake, I buy them already killed because I don't want to see them die, but I own a snake and it's my duty to give her what she needs.
