Cage not good?

i reciently got a cage from a friend whose macaw passed away ..... i was thinking of useing it and wonder if my one and only budgie will get too attached to the roomy cage....its already scared to death from the way it was treated in the pet store......so im afriad that if i give him this new home...he's never going to come out.....he doesnt even come out of his normal size cage.....i take off the roof of the cage and the cage walls and he jsut stays on his cage platform moveing around and playing.....i can leave it alone for HRS and he wont come off...

I doubt you can put him in a macaw-sized cage. The bar spacing would be way too big for a budgie and he would escape or get stuck.

Do you know what brand/model the cage is? And the correct bar spacing?

3/8" is perfect for a budgie. I don't understand why anyone would keep a macaw in a cage with 3/8" spacing! That sounds like something they would chew right through! It also probably isn't big enough for a macaw, but probably OK for your budgie.

Why did the macaw pass away? Was he sick? That is something you may want to think about...you don't want your budgie to get catch some disease.

You mentioned it was five feet tall. What is the length and width of the cage? Is five feet the total height (including legs)?

theres no legs and im not sure of teh width but i guess its about 1 and a half feet wide........my friend got the cage in one of those shops that sells pets JUST to make money and only for that reason.........so i assume that the cage is for some other pet and not for macaws.........and the macaw died os old age.....he bought the bird when he was old and i have no idea why....he felt sorry?

If the cage is 5' high and 1 1/2 or so feed wide, it sounds like it would do better on it's side giving the budgie a "bigger" cage so to speak... or to say, more room to fly...
