Sorry! I totally missed the part about the untamed birds
 My vet weighs the 'keets on the same gram scale as Chief...she just uses a small basket like the others described instead of the perch she uses for Chief.

I use a smaller version of this for untame small birds, keeps them in and I can get weights quickly without a lot of fuss. I just zero out the weight of the container then gently add the bird.
