HQ cages for severe macaw

all my other birds have HQ cages, and I like them a lot (i've had the avian adventures and california cages too), so I want to get one for my new baby as well.

i've read they are sneaky little birdies that can escape a lot of cages... HQ cages are held shut on the feeder doors by these little circles that simply rotate up to open. I don't *see* how she could get her beak through there, but maybe she could pick up a stick and do it LOL. Do you think it'll be an issue? My other birds are quite ingenious and they have never been able to let themselves out. I don't really want to come home and find her not in her cage, particularly as I have a pack of dogs... she lives in an avian adventures cage right now that is padlocked so no way she could get out herself.

Susan:

I have one Severe and they are masters of the game. I had to take the little washers off of the bolts that hold the discs on to tighten them up, but they have been, thusfar, escape proof for my Chi Chi. He will, however, unscrew them from the outside of his cage if given the opportunity.

Miro can get the doors off of anything... I have some HQ cages, he manages to get the doors of if and when he wants to. As Outlaw says, they are masters of escape.

One solution is to use Loc-Tite on the threads when you put the cage together- It is still removeable, but it takes tools and a LOT of strength, Making it relativly severe proof...

I say relativly because it seems that every time I THINK that I have the cage sealed off and 'escape proof', I come home to find Miro standing on top of it, wings spread, and PROUD.... Last time we 'thought' we solved the problem by using nylon wire ties to secure the cages, BUT he snipped them all off- Not just the ones that he needed to escape, mind you- but ALL of them- Just to show us that he could!
