My aviary is on top of a concrete pad that has a drain underneath it, so I just hose down the cages and floor with a power washer every week.

Mulch might cause problems because some woods are toxic.Any organic material could breed mold an fungi. How about pea gravel?

Interesting question.

You could make a full slightly raised floor for it and then go and get some large stone tiles (similar to what you would place on your kitchen or bathroom floor) from a home improvement store and make a base for it. Then a broom and dust pan to collect the loose debri and a wet "Swiffer Sweeper"/mop to clean off any stuck on residue/poo might work for you. I'm guessing material wise it would cost about $40.00 since it's such a small floor.

I would use tile rather than metal as tile won't rust or oxidize. I'd just lay the tiles down on a floor without glueing them; as this will allow you to replace them as needed and also remove them completely when you want to give them a "good cleaning"/blast from the hose.

I guess some 2 inch cement blocks/squares would work as well, but the pores/holes in the blocks will gather/collect feces and mold. However; the 2 inch cement blocks/squares will be cheaper.

Anyway... there's an idea... it's some work... but it should "work".
