trying to make perches...

I'm not sure what to call the things used at the end of some perches, toys, ect. to attach them to the cage. I found some great branches that I'd like to make into perches but don't no how to attach them to the cage. Any suggestions?

I did this with the branches from my back yard. I know theres a way to sterilize them too, with the oven I think. Anyhow, I hammered in nails at both ends about 3/4 of the way in and let the head of the nail rest on the cage bars. You can probably use round screw hooks as well.

Headless Hanger Screws with two fender washers and a wing nut for each end. They have one end that screws into wood and the other end recieves a nut - in this case a wing nut. You use two regular nuts locked together on the nut side and a socket or crecent wrench to screw the screw end into the perch. Then remove the two regular nuts and use the two washers and wing nut to attach to cage. It is sometimes easier if you drill a narrow starter hole into the end of the perch first.

Yeah, it is important to drill that starter hole in the perch, because if you don't, the perch could split and then you have nothing. And if you find a good one, why damage it putting the hanger screw in place. Drill it deep enough but not as wide as the screw that will come, so it will work properly. I know this sounds silly, but be sure to put a washer on the inside and another one on the outside to secure the perch. I saw someone put one in with both washers on one side! Gee whiz!

What I have been doing is cutting the perch a few inches longer then I need it, then cut horizonal slits in either end with a grinder (or a saw could be used). Then wedge it in there, no way they are ever coming out without a fair bit of force.
