Help?! GCC Cage bar spacing?

I've been lucky so far to have been able to find used cages in my area. You see, I have a little problem. My GCC gets so excited to see me when I come home, he scuttles around the bottom of the cage, and wiggles against the bars, trying desprately to get out.

As I'm sure you can imagine, that makes a bird stuck in the cage bars. And my baby stuck in the cage bars makes me both really unhappy and really nervous.

I started with a big cage, that was for 'small parrots.' He fit into the bars.

Now, I have a cockatiel cage, and the bugger managed to get his head caught in those bars!

What can I do!?
