And, lets face it there is no way that the bird can have as much room as they would if they had their own cage.

I know they can save on space, but shouldn't the first priority be the birds needs? I wish I had space for another bird, but I just dont right now so I will have to wait. I wouldn't get a stacker so I could accomodate another bird in my same limited space.
Well coming from a person with an extremely neurotic, secondhand parrot that lives in a stacker cage- I like them. My extremely neurotic feather picking/mutilating caique loves her cage. I put her on the bottom, and I think it gives her a real sense of security, since she has the top and the wall behind her to give her that sense of being in in a small place, which she loves. She has actually started growing in feathers since I placed her on the bottom. I have caiques in my stackers, and do switch them up from time to time. But my male always prefers to the top cage, and the female prefers the bottom. Sometimes they switch for a week or two, but always resort back.

there are certain birds that like being down in the "dark". my meyers and senegals really like being in the "dark", my caiques never minded the bottom cages, and my tiels and eclectus dont care where they are. then we have other birds that love being on top...my patties for example. the rest of the birds do great in middle cages.

This type of question might depend on your birds, or maybe even owner preference. I decided not to get stacker cages. I do not yet know if our new Galah will be comfortable in a bottom cage (we get her in a month), and I did not want to risk her hating it. I know that my Senegal HATES the dark and dark places. He does not want to go into small dark places to snuggle either. He always wants to be in the highest place possible with A LOT of light.

Because I know this about my bird, and do not yet know what my new bird would prefer I decided to not get stacker cages. Nobody knows your birds better then YOU, so its a decision that you will have to make. If you think your bird would like it, then go for it. But don't make the birds suffer or be uncomfortable all day just to save space.

I'm grateful for all the responces here. I wanted to hear everyone's opinion, negative or possitive so thank you all!
I have put my male tiel in the bottom one and then realized he's molting. Can't tell how happy he is as that's not the best time for any bird. LOL
I can tell you that at dinner time (I let them all out together for play time) I found him and his mate in it and they had the choice of 6 other cages including the one he had been living in so I think he doesn't mind it at all. I will get him the full spectrum light bar though. I have full spectrum lamps in there, but this way he'll get the full benefits. Anyway, yesturday was the first day in his new cage and all is well so far

We have bar full spectrum light for each stack cage cage, our Galahs, Cags, Tag and Goffin love their stack cages, plus 3 cages takes the room of 1 cage. All our birds have their own spectrum lighting, makes a Big differance!

I've been looking for stacked cages as well for Cricket and Benji. Sooner or later I'll find one I like at a bird mart. Only problem I see with them is having to bend over to get my fid!!!
